26 Western & English Today STYLE STOCK by Lindsay Whelchel P erhaps nothing says functionality like a stock tie. Originally, equestrian fox hunters wore them to use as bandages if needed while riding through the English countryside. In a nod to tradition, they've since come to be worn as part of the formal attire for several equestrian events, including dressage and hunter/jumper. But, according to Style Stock founder/designer Han nah Childs, stock ties can also be treated as everyday fashion accessories. Childs grew up competing in horse shows. Aer studying fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, she found herself working in corporate design, but she dreamt of a way to parlay her love of horses into her career. en an eques- trian friend contacted her with a problem: She couldn't find a champagne-colored stock tie to match her riding breeches. So Childs designed one for her, using a beautiful champagne silk, and from there, Style Stock was born. Debuting her original line of stock ties and pins in 2014, Childs ensures that functionality melds confidently with sophisticated style. "My style is classic and feminine," she says. "From that I aim to design items that are craed with fair-trade labor, from high-quality materials, that make all women feel beautiful." Style Stock's fabrics, from hard-to-find silks to easy-care cottons with bold prints, and two style options — a classic, self-tie for the more traditional rider and a pre-tied choice for opti- mal convenience — make the collection stand out, as do the bejeweled line of mix-and-match stock pins, which allow riders to give their look an extra element of flair. e latest from Style Stock: a line of children's ties for the young equestrians. www.stylestock.co 1. 4. 3. 2.
