36 Western & English Today EARLY SPRING 2014 T he beauty of a well-made classic collared shirt in a great fabric does wonders for the humblest pair of jeans, a denim jacket or a cow- boy in the saddle. T is is the season to show the shirt in all its glory. T ese shirts make a statement in a variety of handsome styles and fabrics; some evoke the past, others redef ne the pres- ent. T ese new of erings, from some of the industry's most beloved brands, re- tail for $100 or less. For starters, turn to Sidran, designers and distributors of both knit shirts and wov- ens, for Cowgirl Up and Cowboy Up , two fa- vorite labels with a loyal clientele. T e look is edgy, forward and youthful, with new shirts in brighter mainstream colors and palettes. For cowgirls, Fall 2014 at Cowgirl Up features Aztec-inspired embroidery on a long-sleeved shirt with contrast cuf s, plus vintage-wash surfaces for a worn, distressed look. Layered color ef ects are knockouts, es- pecially the iridescent blue wash and denim wash with faux beading. Look for the new logo (CG Up) on every item. At an average cost of $64 retail, these are a great look at a great price. Remember when the words "Western shirt" conjured up the image of a cowboy hero in an embroidered number with just a touch of dazzle? Scully Inc. brings that image back again, but better: Its new crop of classic Old West shirts sport a modern attitude, featuring fancy yokes both front and back and lavish embroidery on a sof , wrin- kle-resistant poly-blend shirt body that holds the embroidery and never bleeds. Scully has lav- ished a variety of textile applications on rich colors and denims with designs that stand out: shotgun cuf s with snaps, passementerie, fanciful edges, smile and arrow pockets. Yet, they're still understated; never overdone. Special in the collection are the tribal-patterned men's shirt and the knockout classic f oral in red, white and blue. For supreme elegance, choose the polished cotton in gray or turquoise with gold embroidery. T ese are shirts to be seen in and remembered. Retail price $80.
